The two songs compliment each other extremely well, both of which are dance-floor ready, depending on the time of night. Love the textures in 'Voicemail'. Feels good.

about

A voice recording can have a life of its own.

"Leave a message after the tone."

"Call me when you get this message."

"Please pick up, I know you're there."

Answering machines fundamentally changed the way we interacted with one another -- or avoided interacting with one another. People were able to filter out calls they didn't want to answer. Confrontations could be avoided. Resentments turned bitter over time. Such frustrations, heartbreaks, and confusions inspired the opening track "You Won't Even Call Me."

The titular track, "Voicemail," evokes a mental image of a recorded voice repeating and echoing endlessly into an open space, independent from the person that produced it. The 303 bassline that embodies this idea morphs over time as its meaning becomes distorted.
